Neues Maxim, located on Landshuter Allee, is one of Munich’s most historic cinemas – its history dates back to 1912, when it first opened under the name Lichtspieltheater des Westens.
Over the course of its more than one-hundred-year history, the cinema underwent several transformations, survived World War II almost unscathed, and under various names shaped the cultural life of the Neuhausen district.
Following extensive renovations, the arthouse cinema was reopened in 2016 as Neues Maxim, featuring upgraded technology and an additional screening room – with a special focus on arthouse films, political cinema, and local initiatives.
KINO ASYL was already a guest at the former Kino Maxim before this relaunch, presenting its films there during the very first year of the festival.
