A historically true account of a significant period of the Kingdom of Ségou, which encompassed a large part of present-day Mail between the 17th and 19th centuries. After the death of King N’Gola Diarra, the founder of the Diarra dynasty in Ségou, a fierce struggle ensued over his succession to the throne. His children fought each other for seven years to settle the succession. Monzon Diarra won this battle and with it his regency in Segou. During his 18-year reign, he led various kingdoms in order to extend his reign. After Monzon Diarra’s death, he left the throne to his son, who had the difficult task of fighting the four greatest enemies that Monzon Diarra had never conquered. There is no exact historical date for this saga, but it continues to fascinate audiences.

I’m Ibrahim Guindo and I’m originally from Mali. I’ve been in Germany for over two years and currently live in a supervised housing group in Riemerling together with other refugees. I attend the KOMM project to prepare for my secondary school diploma. In my free time, I really enjoy playing football or meeting up with friends. I’m taking part in Kino Asyl because I like trying out new things, meeting new people, and I enjoy films. I love Les Rois de Ségou, so I want to show you an episode.
