The documentary deals with the civil war in Syria. Director Talal Derki follows two friends in the city of Homs from August 2011 to August 2013 who organized demonstrations against the dictatorial regime of President Bashar al-Assad. After the Syrian security forces use military force against the demonstrators, the initially pacifist friends decide to take up arms and become resistance fighters against the Assad regime.

My name is Ahmad Sammani, also known as Space Walker, a rapper from Aleppo, Syria. I’ve been living in Germany for almost three years and work as a media producer at the Medienwerkstatt in Ingolstadt. I’ve always wanted to show my girlfriend films from my homeland, where I grew up. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to find these films in Germany. They often don’t have subtitles either. That’s why I think this festival is so great, and I’m happy to be part of it. Many people ask me, “What is it actually like to live in a war?” I want to show this film because it answers that question very well.
