Talaatay Nder

Talaatay Nder

“Tataatay Nder” means “Tuesday of Nder” in Wolof. On Tuesday, March 7, 1820, the women of Nder, a village of the Linguères (queens) in the wealthy province of Walo, took up arms to fight against oppression. They set themselves on fire to escape slavery, thus fighting for their freedom and dignity. A political tribute to the women of Nder, whose story has been passed down from generation to generation.
