QAB iyo IIL is a short film about the civil war, set in a sleepy town in Somalia. It focuses on the story of Guuleed, an aging man who refuses to be part of the warfare of a far-reaching clan.

I come from Somalia, completed high school, and went on to university to become a teacher. Unfortunately, I had to flee my country after the war. I have been living in Munich since November 2015. I’m truly happy to be part of KINO ASYL because it is an interesting project. I suggested the film *QAB iyo IIL*, which can be translated as “Pride and Grave.” It tells the story of the beginning of the Somali civil war from the perspective of a grandfather trying to protect his family. I chose this film because I want people to learn about the Somali civil war. The film is also meant to show that we are all equal and that it doesn’t matter which clan someone belongs to.
