Present Past is a story about the recurring childhood traumas of Mercy Mirembe Banada as a result of witnessing domestic violence, which affects her mental well-being despite her seemingly perfect life. Trapped in a cycle of nightmares, migraines, anxiety, and fear, Mercy refuses to have children with her husband Dominic Banada after three years of marriage. Haunted by memories of domestic violence in her childhood and her mother’s suffering, Mercy sees parenthood as a potential threat to her freedom.
Why this film?
I chose the film because it raises awareness about how to heal from a traumatic past and become free from it in order to live the present healed, free, and happy.
