My film „The River in me“ is about the river within me. It explores my relationship with my culture, the Osun River, water and cultural memories. Osun is one of the most revered Órìshà (deity) in Yoruba tradition, associated with fresh water, love, beauty, fertility and care. Her sacred grove Òshogbo, (South-West) Nigeria, remains a living centre of Yoruba spirituality and cultural heritage. The film was shot at the Isar River in Munich. The river connects a place, that is far away: Yoruba land (Nigeria) with something deep within me.

I am someone who holds her home deep inside me, even if I am far away from home. I left my home, but my home didn’t leave me. What is important for me is the memory, the culture, the identity and the freedom to belong to more than one place. Everyone is at Kino Asyl for the same reason: to give a story a platform. You could say: different rivers flow into the same ocean. Maybe the story wouldn’t have been heard by as many people without Kino Asyl.
