Fragments

Fragments

Issa, a refugee from Sierra Leone, has lived in Germany for seven years. Now his
only chance to one day remain in this country is to leave it—and scattered fragments of his life remain behind.

Why this movie?

We chose this film because my family, myself, and many others are currently dealing with deportation, and we know how severe the psychological consequences are, not only for the individuals affected, but also for their families. That’s why I want to say something: after many years, my sister and I were finally able to embrace our family again—that was the only reason we were able to endure all the difficulties. And now they have been rejected and are facing deportation.

No one can really understand what it’s like when they dream of deportation every night and wake up screaming and afraid.
No one sees their tears, their stress, their fear, and their despair. Many people receive a rejection, despite the illnesses and traumas they have suffered on their journey—just because they came from Greece. But no one takes into account the problems and health difficulties they really have. Is that humane?
