Erste Worte

ERSTE WORTE is a short, warm, and humorous film created by MITEINANDER, a project dedicated to supporting newcomers in Germany through real stories and simple, everyday language learning. The film follows a small group of newly arrived residents in Germany as they navigate their first moments in a new environment — learning basic German words, dealing with misunderstandings, and discovering small acts of kindness that make them feel welcome.

The story is inspired by real experiences shared by people who have recently arrived in Germany. Every scene reflects situations that many newcomers face: not understanding signs, mispronouncing words, feeling lost, and slowly finding confidence through laughter, support, and human connection.

I want to show ERSTE WORTE at KINO ASYL because the film embodies the spirit of the festival: young people telling their own stories in their own voices. KINO ASYL has always been a space where lived experiences become art, and where imperfect language becomes a bridge instead of a barrier. This film is our contribution to that space — a simple, honest portrayal of how belonging begins with a word, a smile, and a moment of Miteinander.

I am Lawrence Boneza, I am from Uganda and I am 32 years old. I love everything to do with music, listening, playing, mixing, creating, writing, everything. My favorite genre is reggae but I love all music. I also love soccer. I used to play it more and now I play it more in video games. I like the Kino Asyl because of the platform it’s offering people to explore their skill set. This touched my soft heart, That’s why I decided to join. Kino Asyl gives me an opportunity to productively use and polish my skills. My career goal is to become a creative director.
