Camouflage

This year, I am very happy to present the film CAMOUFLAGE by Mykyta Gibalenko at Kino Asyl. This film is very special to me for several reasons. First, It is my friend Mykyta’s debut film and I was part of the team. Second, it is a very personal and timely story for Ukrainians who have left the Ukraine due to the Russian invasion.

The film is about the 22-year-old Vitaly, who moves from the Ukraine to Munich in 2021 to build a new life for himself and who feels free for the first time as part of a student theater group. When the Russian war breaks out and his mother and sister flee to join him, he is confronted with the emotional consequences of the war. The drama explores the themes of migration and identity from various perspectives. Vitaly is searching for the answer to the question: where do I really belong?

I am Anastasia Nizamova, an up-and-coming film direction from the Ukraine. I have been in Germany since 2022 and I always wonder if this country could become my second home. At Kino Asyl, I have met people who are going through similar „integration journeys“ and who feel homesick. It is very valuable to get the opportunity to share these feelings with others and to talk about one’s own homeland and culture through films.
