The title of the film “Dewenti” means “Greetings for the Festival” in Wolof (a language spoken in Senegal, Gambia, and Mauritania). The short film tells the story of young Ousmane, a Talibe (a Quranic student), who is sent daily by his teacher into the streets of Dakar to beg for alms. He devises a strategy to make his begging more creative. Instead of just asking for money, he offers a trade for a prayer or a wish. He also promises to ask Santa Claus to fulfill all these wishes. Finally, he writes a letter to Santa Claus with a big wish for himself.

My name is Lamin Kinteh, some people call me MLK. I believe I have everything in life. But it takes time, the right heart, the right actions, the right passion, and the willingness to take risks. The film Deweneti reflects that as well.
