MFUKO – The duffle bag

A young deaf villager’s journey to the bustling city of Kampala turns deadly when a mix–up involving identical duffel bags puts him in the midst of a violent drug–trafficking ring.

Why this film?

I chose Mfuko: The Duffle Bag because it tells a powerful story from Uganda from the perspective of John, a deaf villager who must navigate the chaos of Kampala. The film sheds light on an often overlooked global issue – the challenges faced by people with disabilities in fast–paced urban environments – while giving the audience an authentic glimpse into life on the streets of Kampala. Through Kino Asyl, I hope to share this story and spark conversations about inclusion, resilience, and humanity.
