Traces

The documentary tells the moving story of an Ukrainian organization that helps women who have been deeply scarred by war. It gives a voice to those that often stay hidden – women, who have to overcome pain, shame and fear, to speak about what they have experienced.
Why this film?
This year I am presenting this movie out of a deep desire to give the women in it a voice and to help them. I am convinced that when we talk about difficult topics, we show our willingness to help. At Kino Asyl I want to talk about compassion – in the purely human sense. Because the more we look and speak out, the more we can support one another.

From the Ukraine to Germany: I studied architecture, am completing an apprenticeship as a technical systems planer and volunteer at ZIRKEL e. V. as well as at Mobilspiel, working with people with disabilities. I love reading because it gives me a sense of grounding. I enjoy traveling, getting to know people from all over the world and attending classical concerts and dancing - for me that is pure meditation. I am a ship that grows heavy beneath empty sails. Great fires burn within me, but only the wind makes them dance. What fills me becomes my wind — not to carry me away, but to fill my sails. Perhaps that is enough: to feel the wind touch me and remember how much life is burning within.
